On their initiative, all of the Afikim families in Kiryat Malachi were invited to a pre-Sukkot festive meal featuring gourmet catering seasoned with Pereg spices! Nearly 150 Afikim children, parents, and Pereg family members participated in the meal which was deemed a success by both hosts and guests. One mother, who attended with her three children, expressed her gratitude, saying that because she will not be able to afford to purchase any special delicacies for the Holiday, she is happy that her children had experienced this very special treat. Other parents let it be known that they had never in their lives experiences such culinary delights and they were truly grateful for the experience.

Moshe Lefkowitz, Executive Director of Afikim, addressed the group and likened Afikim to Pereg. Pereg, he said, adds soul to the food. Without it, food would just be produce. However, with Pereg seasonings, the food becomes a delicacy - flavorful and soulful! Likewise, Afikim provides the children with care and attention and thereby transforms troubled, at-risk children into beautiful, hopeful individuals.

The meal lasted a few hours during which foods were tasted and enjoyed with interest and excitement. Holiday songs filled the air and there was a sense of rejoicing in the Holiday that is difficult to describe.
